Kayaks & Canoes
One of the best ways to truly explore and enjoy the many hidden coves and beaches is by Kayak or Canoe. Meander along the shoreline at a leisurely pace, or paddle briskly to get in a good cardio workout while enjoying the natural beauty. Rentals are available at the State Parks at Lake Waramaug and Squantz Pond – check the CT DEEP website http://www.ct.gov/deep//cwp/view.asp?a=2716&q=325288&deepNav_GID=1650 for more information.
Another popular way to explore the lakes is by Paddleboard. Commonly becoming known as the “water workout”, this is a great way to relax on the lake. The most local Paddleboard company is located in New Fairfield. Candlewood Stand Up Paddleboard, LLC offers rental, instruction, group classes, and even the highly popular Paddle Yoga. Tel: 203-312-7704 or visit them online at www. Candlewoodsup.com.
General rule of thumb – if you are a beginner, try to go out on the lakes earlier in the day to avoid boating traffic, or alternatively go to one of the quieter lakes that does not allow motorized boats. Examples would be Lake Kenosia in Danbury, Ball Pond in New Fairfield, or Lake Waramaug in Kent to name a few.
